April 3\, 2014!\nPURPOSE:  The purpose of the Cultural Performances during the National Cherry Blossom Festival is to celebrate the friendship symbolized by the gift of flowering cherry trees from Tokyo to Washington\, D.C. and to demonstrate cross-cultural exchange through a dynamic mix of American\, Japanese\, and other cultural performing arts. \nLOCATION:  Welcome Area – National Cherry Blossom Festival and National Park Service. Parking lot at the intersection of 15th st. SW & Independence Ave SW\nThe location of the performance stage is the welcome area\, on the grounds of the Tidal Basin (just west of 15th street and Maine Ave SW)  \nHOURS:  Performances will be held daily from 12p-6p\, from March 22th through April 6th\, rain or shine. SUMMARY:Schermerhorn Theater- World Premiere Commemorative Dance & Musical Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring
DESCRIPTION:In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Paris premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s and Vaslav Nijinsky’s The Rite of Spring\, attend a live performance of music and dance with Alison Cook Beatty Dance’s world premiere of MAHAWAY: SPRING ETERNAL\, based on a Mayan folktale and set to a newly written Stravinsky-inspired musical score that will be performed live by the musical ensemble TENTH INTERVENTION. The show will take place in Brooklyn\, New York at the Schermerhorn Theater on May 29th\, 2013; that’s right\, the exact 100th anniversary date (we kept it real!). We will be having a post-performance celebratory reception with a mix of Stravinsky’s best scores playing in the background.
