Please help us get there while also attending a virtual performance premiere!\nA virtual performance in dedication to dancers and backstage workers impacted by COVID-19. \nWe are excited to share a very special project with you on May 25th at 7 p.m. ET via YouTube titled\, “Dance Like No One Is Watching.” This dance film is dedicated to all of the dancers and backstage workers who have been affected by COVID-19. \nClick Here for Tickets\n  \nChoreographed on Zoom and filmed at the historic Strand Theatre in Boston\, this project sought to capture the magic of the theater\, dance\, and the team of talented individuals — on-stage and off-stage — that brings the work to fruition. \nWith inspiration from a prompt\, I presented to our community\, “What does the theater mean to you? I brought those inspiring sentiments into the virtual rehearsal process with dancer Nika Antuanette and worked with dancer Miranda Stuck and lighting designer Tony Marques to incorporate the public’s messages into the dance film\, filmed by Ellen Maynard. \nBelow is a sketch I made of backstage workers finishing the final lighting adjustments and sweeping the floor in preparation for The Strand Theater performance. \n \nTherein lies the story that unfolded and we share with you on May 25th at 7 p.m. A sold-out theater\, a solo rehearsed for months and ready for the premiere\, a team at work\, and an audience awaiting an evening of dance… when sometimes life takes unexpected turns. With art imitating life\, sometimes a dance is much more than a dance\, but a reflection of who we are and how we work together. \n \n  \nWe will be back in a theater soon! Please help us get there by purchasing a ticket to this premiere and/or making a tax-deductible donation of any kind to this premiere. \n  \nJoin us on YouTube on May 25th as we celebrate the theater and those that bring dance to life\, and support all of the artists and theater workers that Alison Cook Beatty Dance works with each day. We are so grateful for their support. \nJoin us on a Zoom webinar for a special behind-the-scenes viewing of the filming of this new collaborative work. Alison teamed up with body percussionist and rhythm specialist Michael Feigenbaum (photo upper right) to co-choreograph “Beat-leró” which was inspired by Ravel’s musical compositional score\, Boleró. To add to the collaboration Alison invited back composer Stanislav Fridman (photo bottom right) to create a reimagined Boleró incorporating the rhythmic sounds the dancers play with their bodies and props. Designer Ali Taghavi (photo bottom left) has continued to create handmade costumes for the dancers. Videographer Nick Morgulis\, (photo top left) who recently worked with us on “In Spite of\, Because of…The Wallpaper” will be filming that day.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:50th Anniversary of Earth Day (Virtual Event)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Composer Dorian Wallace wrote this piece for the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day to help bring awareness for Climate Action and existential threat that climate change brings to our entire species. It was supposed to be premiered as a marathon concert on Earth Day of this year\, but with the recent COVID-19 pandemic\, that event was canceled. All of the pianists submitted video footage of them playing the piece at home during quarantine (each of these pianists is a famous concert pianist!) The choreographer’s improv material has been spliced together. Artistic Director of ACBD\, Alison Cook-Beatty\, is honored to be among them. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCollaborating with 16 pianists and 32 dancers from around the globe\, the final project will premiere at 8pm ET on April 22\, 2020\, via Facebook Premiere (https://www.facebook.com/DorianWallaceMusic/) and YouTube Live (https://bit.ly/2lWmhn8) \nThis project will be used to bring awareness and raise money for various environmental projects. \nIn January 2020\, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists set the Doomsday Clock to 100 seconds to midnight due to looming existential threats of nuclear war\, climate change\, disruptive technologies and most recently the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the closest to midnight the Clock has ever been set. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe time to act is now. For Earth!\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
