SUMMARY:TAKE ROOT
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]\nTAKE ROOT\, now in its 13th season\, nurtures dance artists at established stages in their careers\, pairing them in a split bill or full evening-length program. This monthly series supports dance makers’ experimentation and growth with support to present their work to the public. Take Root will present 20 aesthetically diverse artists among seven performances July 2021 – June 2022.\n\n**Note: This event is NOT free\, but is available on a donation-made basis through the link below.**\n\nTAKE ROOT featuring Alison Cook Beatty Dance and Anabella Lenzu will be made available starting July 16. Performances can be viewed on a donation-made basis.\n\nVisit https://danceentropy.networkforgood.com/…/120552-take… and select “8) TAKE ROOT – JULY 2021” under Apply My Donation To. Donors will receive an email with the links to view each work. Viewers can make a donation with the July 2021 designation at any time through December 31\, 2021.\n\nAbout the Work:\nMAHAWAY: SPRING ETERNAL is a two-act ballet that tells the story of a Mother Skunk named Akhushtal\, her baby girl Mahaway\, and a protective jaguar named Ix Chel. MAHAWAY: SPRING ETERNAL is a commemorative dance & musical celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Paris premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s and Vaslav Nijinsky’s “The Rite of Spring”. Cook-Beatty’s ballet premiered at The Schermerhorn Theater in Brooklyn\, NY\, on the century anniversary date May 29\, 2013\, in collaboration with composer Dorian Wallace\, the co-artistic director of Tenth Intervention. In this virtual performance\, 2019\, Tenth Intervention performs live with 25 dancers from Alison Cook Beatty Dance and Infinity Dance Theater\, a non-traditional dance company committed to expanding the boundaries of dance by featuring dancers with and without disabilities\, under the direction of Artistic Director Kitty Lunn.\nAnabella Lenzu’s “The night that you stopped acting/ La noche que dejaste de actuar” confronts the absurdity and irony of life\, while being an artist and a spectator in today’s world. The work reflects Anabella Lenzu’s my experience as a Latina/European artist living in New York and comes from a deep examination of my motivations as a woman\, mother\, and immigrant.\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Dance Like No One is Watching — May 25th\, 2021 Virtual Performance
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]\nWe will be back in a theater soon! Please help us get there while also attending a virtual performance premiere!\nA virtual performance in dedication to dancers and backstage workers impacted by COVID-19. \nWe are excited to share a very special project with you on May 25th at 7 p.m. ET via YouTube titled\, “Dance Like No One Is Watching.” This dance film is dedicated to all of the dancers and backstage workers who have been affected by COVID-19. \nClick Here for Tickets\n  \nChoreographed on Zoom and filmed at the historic Strand Theatre in Boston\, this project sought to capture the magic of the theater\, dance\, and the team of talented individuals — on-stage and off-stage — that brings the work to fruition. \nWith inspiration from a prompt\, I presented to our community\, “What does the theater mean to you? I brought those inspiring sentiments into the virtual rehearsal process with dancer Nika Antuanette and worked with dancer Miranda Stuck and lighting designer Tony Marques to incorporate the public’s messages into the dance film\, filmed by Ellen Maynard. \nBelow is a sketch I made of backstage workers finishing the final lighting adjustments and sweeping the floor in preparation for The Strand Theater performance. \n \nTherein lies the story that unfolded and we share with you on May 25th at 7 p.m. A sold-out theater\, a solo rehearsed for months and ready for the premiere\, a team at work\, and an audience awaiting an evening of dance… when sometimes life takes unexpected turns. With art imitating life\, sometimes a dance is much more than a dance\, but a reflection of who we are and how we work together. \n \n  \nWe will be back in a theater soon! Please help us get there by purchasing a ticket to this premiere and/or making a tax-deductible donation of any kind to this premiere. \n  \nJoin us on YouTube on May 25th as we celebrate the theater and those that bring dance to life\, and support all of the artists and theater workers that Alison Cook Beatty Dance works with each day. From our beautiful dancers to the ones you don’t see— the lighting designers\, the costume designers\, the musicians\, composers\, film editors\, photographers\, videographers\, crew\, and the entire production team. It takes a village to create magic. We have many superstars onstage and off. \nWe need your support more than ever! Alison Cook Beatty Dance has been working through COVID-19 in ways never imagined all year to bring art to the community. Please help us get back into the studio and theater. We need to raise $10\,000 to continue work in 2021. Please support Alison Cook Beatty Dance today. \nWe want to thank Matthew Breton of The Strand Theater\, the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs\, and the City of Boston. We also thank Jessica Gordon Academy of Performing Arts in Revere\, MA\, and the Brookline Ballet School in MA for helping us with rehearsal space. \nClick Here for Tickets\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
